Pope Francis is in critical health condition, Vatican says

Pope Francis is in critical condition after experiencing a severe asthmatic respiratory crisis early Saturday. Doctors are providing high-flow oxygen to stabilize his breathing, and a blood transfusion was necessary due to anemia. His situation remains concerning, with the Vatican describing his condition as “reserved.” Although he remains alert, he is experiencing greater pain compared to the previous day and will stay hospitalized for at least a week. His pneumonia, which affects both lungs, continues to complicate his recovery.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pope Francis became the 266th pope in 2013, after serving as a Jesuit priest, teacher, and Archbishop of Buenos Aires. His papacy has been defined by his focus on mercy, social justice, and care for the marginalized. Known for his humility, Pope Francis has broken from tradition, prioritizing the human aspect of faith. His enduring resilience serves as an inspiration during these health challenges.
