My Son’s Summer with Grandma Took an Unexpected Turn When I Received a Call from Her

When I sent my son to spend the summer with his grandma, I expected him to return with stories of homemade cookies and afternoons by the lake. Instead, I got a call that turned my world upside down.

“Come get your son,” my mother’s voice trembled. “I don’t know what’s gotten into him.”

Confused, I pressed for details. Apparently, my sweet, well-mannered boy had transformed into a mischievous mastermind. He’d let Grandma’s chickens loose, turned the living room into a fort using her best sheets, and somehow managed to flood the backyard with a makeshift water park.

I rushed over, expecting chaos. But when I arrived, I found Grandma and my son laughing over a mess of flour in the kitchen. She winked at me. “He’s a handful, but I wouldn’t trade this summer for anything.”

Sometimes, the best memories come from the most unexpected moments.
