I had no idea! This is so true for me

Healthy nails often go unnoticed, but their condition can reveal a lot about your overall health. If your nails frequently split, break, or show unusual signs, they might be pointing to nutritional deficiencies or health issues. Early detection of these signs can improve both your nail appearance and general well-being.

1. Inadequate Nutrition
A lack of biotin, a B-vitamin, can cause brittle nails. Good sources include eggs, almonds, and spinach. Iron deficiency may result in thin, ridged nails. Boost your intake with red meat, lentils, or fortified cereals. Protein, vital for keratin production, helps build strong nails—add more lean meats, dairy, and legumes to your meals.

2. Hydration
Dehydration affects nail flexibility and strength. Drinking enough water daily keeps nails healthy and resilient.

3. Environmental Factors
Harsh chemicals in cleaning products or frequent use of nail polish removers can weaken nails. Use gloves when cleaning and opt for acetone-free products. Cold, dry weather can also sap moisture—apply moisturizer and wear gloves during winter.

4. Medical Conditions
Thyroid disorders and psoriasis may cause brittle, irregular nails. Fungal infections can lead to nail splitting and should be treated with antifungal medications.

5. Physical Stress
Using nails as tools can cause trauma. Keep nails trimmed and avoid rough handling to prevent breakage.

6. Aging
As we age, nails naturally become drier. Moisturizing and increasing omega-3 intake can help maintain strength.

If nail issues persist, consult a healthcare provider to rule out underlying conditions and receive targeted advice.
