The city lights blurred past the windows as the boy sat stiffly, still holding the toddler tightly in his arms.

He hadn’t said a word.

Neither had the man.

“You protect her well,” the man finally said.

The boy looked up, confused.

“She’s my sister,” he replied quickly. “I won’t let anything happen to her.”

The man nodded slowly, studying him.

“I know.”

The boy’s chest tightened. “What do you mean?”

The car stopped.

They were in front of a large, elegant house.

The gates opened silently.

The boy’s heart began to pound.

“I’ve been looking for you,” the man said quietly.

“Your mother worked for me years ago,” he said. “She saved my life.”

“I don’t want anything,” he said quickly, defensively. “We didn’t come for money.”

The man’s expression softened—not with pity, but with something deeper.

“I know,” he said. “That’s why you deserve everything.”

The car door opened.

Warm light spilled out from the house.
