Officer Girard Moscato, 57, filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court, according to the New York Post. He accused Dr. John Santucci, an embattled NYPD doctor facing harassment allegations, of rushing him back to full duty after suffering a stroke and heart attack due to lingering COVID complications.
Despite recommendations from his cardiologist, Moscato claims Santucci disregarded the advice for limited duty. The cop had a heart monitor installed in May 2021, forcing him out of work for two months, and upon return, he was assigned to restricted duty. In January 2022, Santucci allegedly ignored the cardiologist’s recommendation again, causing concerns for Moscato’s health.
“As we navigate these challenges, it is crucial that we prioritize the well-being and safety of our officers. Providing proper medical care and support for those facing health issues is not just a legal responsibility, but a moral obligation we owe to those who protect and serve our community.” – NYPD Spokesperson
