Dark meaning behind nursery rhyme ‘it’s raining it’s pouring’ is making people question their childhoods

The nursery rhymes we recited during our school days, like “It’s raining, it’s pouring,” carried a nostalgic innocence. However, a TikTok teacher named ‘Stupid Little Genius’ has unveiled a darker interpretation of this rhyme. Singing the lyrics with a spooky twist, she reveals that the rhyme isn’t about the weather but conveys a cautionary lesson. It metaphorically describes an old man who enjoyed drinking. The phrases “raining” and “pouring” refer to his fondness for alcohol, not rain. When he went to bed after a drinking session, he stumbled and hit his head due to his intoxicated state. Unfortunately, this head injury proved fatal, leaving him unable to get up again. The teacher’s explanation stresses the importance of drinking responsibly to avoid such dire consequences. Some viewers were surprised by this revelation, while others offered alternative interpretations. This darker angle adds a new layer of complexity to a childhood rhyme that once seemed purely innocent.
