Doctors Warn Taking This Vitamin May Cause You To Go Blind

Millions of Americans rely on vitamins and supplements for better health, but experts caution against excessive intake. Niacin, a vital B vitamin, aids metabolism, nervous system, and heart health. However, excessive niacin consumption can lead to blindness and liver damage. Recommended daily niacin intake for women is around 14 mg, while some supplements offer up to 500 mg, potentially toxic.

A case study highlighted a 61-year-old man’s blindness due to self-treatment with excessive niacin for high cholesterol. Consuming 3 to 6 grams daily for months led to retinal damage. Symptoms of overdose include dizziness, headaches, low blood pressure, heartburn, and nausea. Extremely high doses can lead to muscle damage, ulcers, and liver damage. Though niacin is beneficial, strict adherence to recommended doses is crucial for maintaining health. Always consult a doctor before taking supplements.
