A plane was forced to divert its landing just one day before the tragic American Airlines crash that killed 60 passengers and four crew members. Republic Airways Flight 4514 had to abort its landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on January 28 after a helicopter entered its flight path. The plane, traveling from Windsor Locks, Connecticut, was able to safely land after regaining altitude. The next day, American Airlines Flight 5432 crashed into a military helicopter, killing everyone on board, including three soldiers in the helicopter. The incident has raised concerns about airport safety, with investigations ongoing. In the aftermath, American Airlines CEO Robert Isom expressed deep sympathy for the victims, while President Trump criticized the failure to prevent the near-miss and questioned why the helicopter and air traffic control didn’t take more immediate action. The victims included young figure skaters, their coaches, and family members.
