Not the Air Conditioner – This is the Real “Electricity Thief” Costing You the Most
If your electricity bill seems high despite careful use of appliances, the culprit may be your set-top box (STB). Surprisingly, an STB consumes more power than an air conditioner, especially when it’s in standby mode. Even when turned off via remote, the STB continues drawing power unless you completely shut it off.
Solution: To reduce unnecessary electricity usage, simply turn off the power switch on the STB or use a power strip to disconnect it when not in use.
Other Tips to Save Electricity:
- Air Conditioner: Choose an inverter model, set the temperature to 26°C (78.8°F), and use sleep mode at night to save energy. Regularly clean it to maintain efficiency.
- Refrigerator: Cool food before refrigerating, arrange items for better air circulation, and set the temperature to 4–5°C (39–41°F) to minimize energy use.
- Washing Machine: Adjust water levels and washing time based on fabric type. Use a power strip to disconnect when not in use.
By choosing energy-efficient appliances and using them wisely, you can lower your electricity costs while maintaining comfort at home.
