My Sister Demands I Be Her Surrogate Despite Knowing It Would Endanger My Life

A 31-year-old woman shared her painful story on Reddit about being mistreated by her family since birth. Her parents always favored her older sister, Mary, who was considered the “golden child,” while OP (Original Poster) felt like an afterthought, often hospitalized for health issues and labeled a financial burden. Despite this, OP went on to build a life for herself away from the toxic family dynamics, meeting her now-husband Greg and having a child, although her pregnancy was high-risk.

After moving back to her hometown to care for her ailing grandfather, OP’s parents and sister suddenly started acting kind and supportive. But during a family dinner, her sister surprised her with a letter asking OP to be her surrogate after discovering she was infertile. OP immediately refused, explaining the health risks involved, only for her parents to accuse her of being selfish and insisting that “for family, you take risks.” OP felt conflicted but ultimately stood her ground.

Redditors overwhelmingly supported OP, telling her she wasn’t wrong for prioritizing her health and warning that her family seemed to be exploiting her.
