“Watermelon Cracks? Don’t Eat It! Here’s Why”

If you cut open a watermelon and notice strange cracks inside, you may want to avoid eating it! These cracks, often referred to as “hollow heart”, can sometimes indicate that the fruit has been overgrown too quickly due to unnatural growth enhancers or excessive fertilizers.

In some cases, these cracks could also be a sign of forchlorfenuron, a chemical growth regulator used to speed up fruit production. While not always dangerous, consuming watermelons treated with excessive chemicals may pose health risks.

To stay safe, always choose watermelons with a uniform shape, avoid ones that feel unusually light, and opt for those from trusted sources. If you notice large, unusual cracks inside, it’s better to be cautious and discard the fruit. 🚫🍉
