We Adopted a 4-Year-Old Girl — Just a Month Later, My Wife Demanded, ‘We Should Give Her Back’

After adopting a 4-year-old girl, our lives were full of hope and excitement. However, just a month into the adoption, my wife shocked me with a sudden request: “We should give her back.” I was taken aback and heartbroken, unsure of what had changed so quickly.

My wife explained that she was struggling with the responsibility and the emotional toll of the transition. While she loved the little girl, the challenges of parenting a child with a traumatic past were overwhelming.

We had to have deep conversations about our commitment, the struggles of adoption, and the future. After a lot of reflection, we chose to seek support from professionals and counseling to work through our emotions. Ultimately, we decided to stay committed to our daughter and give her the stability she needed, despite the challenges. It was a difficult and emotional journey, but we grew stronger as a family through the experience.
