Adopted, Then Revealed
No one wanted her. That’s what we were told. She had been passed over again and again — too quiet, too withdrawn, too “complicated,” they said.
But when we met her, she didn’t seem complicated at all. Just… alone.
We brought her home that same month. She barely spoke at first, always observing, always careful. But over time, she softened. Birthdays, school days, small moments — she became ours in every way that mattered.
Years passed. She grew into a strong, independent woman. Built her own life. Made us proud in ways words can’t explain.
Then, on our 25th anniversary as a family, a letter arrived.
Her name was on the front. But inside… it wasn’t from her.
It was from someone claiming to know her past — a past we had never been told. Details, dates, names… things that didn’t match the story we were given.
We sat there in silence, reading it over and over again.
Everything we believed about how she came into our lives suddenly felt uncertain.
