An American couple, Sarah and Bill, decided to show their support for Canadians after the U.S. president signed an order imposing tariffs on Canada. The order claimed that Canada’s fentanyl production and illegal border crossings posed a significant threat to the U.S. In response, Sarah and Bill paid for every customer’s meal at a Canadian restaurant as a gesture of goodwill. The couple expressed their disapproval of the situation and said they wanted to show their appreciation for Canada despite the political tensions.
Aileen Ganley-Mutter, a customer at the restaurant, was surprised by the couple’s kindness, especially since there were around 50 to 60 people present. Some diners offered to pay their own bills or add tips, but Sarah and Bill declined, saying it was “the least” they could do. The couple emphasized their ongoing support for Canada, expressing regret over the political rift. Co-owner May Hermiz also shared her astonishment, noting the applause and cheers from other patrons. Sarah mentioned her dislike of U.S. policies and conveyed her love for Canada, especially after their victory in the recent hockey game.
