Bondi Directs DOJ to Challenge Biden’s Death Row Commutations

Former President Joe Biden’s decision to commute 37 federal death row sentences has sparked backlash from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is seeking ways to reverse it.

Bondi criticized the move as undermining justice and stripping victims’ families of closure. She directed the DOJ to explore legal avenues for states to reinstate the death penalty, ensure strict confinement conditions for the inmates, and provide victims’ families a public platform.

Biden’s commutations reduced sentences to life without parole but excluded mass murderers like Dylann Roof and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Bondi is also leading legal battles against state sanctuary policies, vowing lawsuits against states that defy federal immigration laws, starting with New York and Illinois.
