California boy fatally stabbed in heart on Valentines Day date

On February 14, a Valentine’s Day outing turned into a devastating tragedy when 15-year-old David Gutierrez from California was fatally stabbed while on a date with his high school sweetheart. The young couple had planned a romantic evening, but their night was shattered when David was attacked by a group of juveniles at Santana Row, a popular shopping and entertainment district in San Jose, California.

At approximately 7:14 p.m., the San Jose Police Department (SJPD) responded to a call reporting a “fight involving multiple people” at the scene. Upon arrival, officers found David with at least one stab wound to his chest. Paramedics performed life-saving measures before transporting him to a local hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

David’s family, in a statement to ABC7, described him as a “kind, empathetic” young man with a “gentle demeanor.” His loved ones added, “He was his family’s happy energy, and whenever he walked into a room, it simply lit up. Our precious young boy, an amazing young man, whose life was taken too soon at the age of 15, was enrolled in college-bound classes to prepare for his future. He was also actively involved in community church activities.”

David’s boxing instructor, Berto Barrita, shared his grief over the teenager’s death. Speaking with ABC7, Barrita recalled David as “a good kid, outgoing, friends with everybody here. All these young guys here were friends with him.” Barrita, who coached David at Gladiator’s Boxing Gym in Redwood City, described the loss as “devastating,” noting that David had joined the gym to be with his friends and pursue his passion for boxing.

David’s untimely death has shaken the community, with many rallying to support his family. On a GoFundMe page set up by David’s aunt, Diana Gutierrez, donations poured in to assist with funeral expenses and to help the grieving family. One donor wrote, “My condolences are with you and your family. My daughter, Emma, was a great friend of David, and she is deeply affected by all this. We will always have David in our hearts and remember his beautiful big smile.” Another contributor shared, “My deepest condolences for your loss—this hurt.

David’s tragic passing serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the senseless violence that can disrupt even the most joyful moments. His family and the community will forever carry the memory of the young boy whose bright future was taken far too soon.
