Former Fox News Anchor Accused of Fatally Stabbing Her 80-Year-Old Mother — Details

A Wichita neighborhood was shaken on October 31, 2025, when police responding to a “reported cutting” found 80-year-old Anita Avers fatally stabbed in her Crowley Street home. Officers arrived around 7:52 a.m. and discovered Avers unresponsive in bed; she was pronounced dead shortly after at a local hospital.Outside, police detained Angelynn “Angie” Elizabeth Mock, 47, a former Fox News anchor and Avers’s daughter. Mock was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, with bond set at $1 million. According to a neighbor, “A woman came up to our car covered in blood, asking to call 911.”

Dispatch recordings captured a female voice saying she “stabbed her mother to save herself,” though authorities have not confirmed whether this was an official self-defense claim. Investigators continue to examine motive, weapon details, and the sequence of events leading up to the killing.

Mock’s career spanned roles at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City and KTVI FOX 2 in St. Louis, along with earlier work in Montana, Nebraska, and Minnesota. In recent years, she transitioned to corporate consulting and nonprofit work before the shocking arrest.

In a separate tragedy, 20-year-old Michigan student Sarah Carroll was killed in a suspected murder-suicide on August 30, 2025. Police say her ex-boyfriend shot her before turning the gun on himself. Carroll’s parents described her as “brilliant and kind,” urging others to act on signs of domestic danger.

Meanwhile, in South Carolina, nine Myrtle Beach–area teens were charged in the June 24 shooting death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright. Officials cited the state’s “hand of one, hand of all” law in pursuing multiple murder counts.

Authorities say the deadly confrontation began over a relationship dispute. Wright’s classmates remembered him as a bright athlete and loyal friend.
