Here’s why you should always leave an upturned glass and a piece of paper in the sink before going on vacation

This allows sewer gases to seep through the drains and create musty smells indoors. The stagnant, damp environment also attracts pests like gnats, ants, or cockroaches, which can enter directly through the pipes.

To prep your sink before travel, follow a few easy steps. First, clean the sink thoroughly and pour hot white vinegar down the drain. Let it sit for a few hours, then rinse with warm water. Rub a lemon wedge around the drain to leave a fresh scent. Once dry, place the paper towel and upside-down glass as described.
