A tragic incident occurred as 17-year-old basketball player Caleb White, hailing from Pinson Valley High School in Alabama, passed away during a team workout. Last season, he shone as a junior, earning a first-team all-state distinction. With a ranking of 25th among national point guards and second in Alabama, as noted by his grandfather George Varnadoe Jr., Caleb held remarkable promise. The unfortunate event took place around 1:12 p.m. on Thursday, despite efforts to save him, and he was declared deceased at a nearby hospital about an hour later. AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs expressed condolences, highlighting Caleb’s exemplary character as both a student-athlete and role model. Pinson Mayor Joe Cochran shared a heartfelt Facebook message, emphasizing the fleeting nature of life and the impact Caleb made. Varnadoe remembered Caleb for his academic excellence, respectfulness, and exceptional basketball skills.
