Julianne Moore slams Donald Trump after her children’s book is banned

Julianne Moore has spoken out about the shock of learning her children’s book, Freckleface Strawberry, was banned from Department of Defense schools under the Trump Administration.

The Academy Award-winning actress, known for Still Alice, authored the 2007 book based on her own childhood nickname due to her red hair and freckles. The story follows a young girl learning to embrace her uniqueness, promoting self-acceptance.

Despite its positive message, Moore revealed on Instagram that the book is prohibited in certain schools. She expressed disappointment, particularly as a graduate of Frankfurt American High School, a Department of Defense school, and as the daughter of a Vietnam War veteran.

Moore questioned why a book about self-acceptance would be considered controversial, emphasizing that she wrote it to remind children that struggles unite us. She expressed sadness over the ban in a country that values free speech and thanked PEN America for highlighting the issue.
