When Mel Gibson was offered the role of William Wallace in Braveheart, he immediately knew the script would change his life. “It was a very haunting piece of work,” he said, adding that the story stayed with him long after reading it. Though initially approached as an actor, Gibson couldn’t let it go. “I just felt I had to tell this story,” he said, eventually deciding to direct the film.

To perfect the Scottish accent, Gibson turned to none other than Sir Sean Connery. “You just pick up the accent from the people you’re talking to,” he shared, recalling Connery pronouncing “goulash” in his distinctive tone as an unintentional lesson in dialect.

The role of William Wallace helped cement Gibson’s legacy as a Hollywood icon, but his personal life remained far from the spotlight. Gibson has nine children, including Milo Gibson, who has followed in his father’s footsteps into acting.

Milo didn’t initially plan on joining Hollywood. He worked as a massage therapist and electrician before realizing his passion for acting. “My dad always said to do what you love,” Milo told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I really love acting.”

Milo’s first significant role came in his father’s 2016 war film Hacksaw Ridge. He later starred in The Tribes of Palos Verdes (2017), All the Devil’s Men (2018), and Dangerous (2021), gradually establishing himself as a rising action star.

Despite his father’s fame, Milo was raised away from the Hollywood spotlight. “Our parents kept us out of that type of world,” he said. “It changes people.”

With striking good looks and undeniable talent, Milo is often compared to his father. “Sometimes people say, ‘Hey, you look like Mel Gibson!’ And I go, ‘F**k, I wish!’”
