More Bad News for Jimmy Carter and His Family

Rosalynn Carter has been by former president Jimmy Carter’s side for decades. They are a happily married couple with a North Carolina home to call their own, but things aren’t exactly peachy in the Carter household.

Jimmy Carter has been receiving hospice care at home, as previously revealed by his family. This is a special kind of hospice care provided in the home that focuses on making the patient as comfortable as possible rather than on curing them.

The Carters have received some more devastating news. Rosalynn Carter’s personal diagnosis has been announced by her family. Dementia has been confirmed for the ex-first lady, who is 95 years old.

This is seen by some as paradoxical given that she devoted most of her life to championing the rights of those with mental illness.

Although the Carter family has released a statement that acknowledges Rosalynn’s illness, it remains cheerful, saying that she “continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones.”

This declaration also sheds light on Mrs. Carter’s personal outlook on life and “caregivers.” “Mrs. Carter often noted that there are only four kinds of people in this world: those who have been caregivers, those who are caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers,” the statement continues. To conclude, the statement reads, “We do not expect to comment further and ask for understanding for our family and for everyone across the country serving in a caregiver role.”
