Pete Hegseth Immediately Shuts Down “Hit Piece” by Bringing the Receipts They Didn’t Know He Had

Fact Check: Pete Hegseth and the West Point Controversy

Pete Hegseth, a combat veteran and Bronze Star recipient, has faced several criticisms following his nomination by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as Secretary of Defense in a potential second Trump administration. Among the claims is a report by ProPublica attempting to question Hegseth’s past statements regarding his history with West Point.

Hegseth has previously stated that he was accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point but ultimately chose to attend Princeton University for his undergraduate studies. At Princeton, he participated in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program, which prepared him for his military service.

Critics have attempted to cast doubt on Hegseth’s West Point claim, but no substantial evidence has emerged to contradict his account. Supporters argue that these criticisms are politically motivated attempts to undermine his nomination.

Hegseth’s military career and service, which includes multiple deployments and recognition with a Bronze Star, remain at the forefront of his qualifications for the role of Secretary of Defense.
