We Spent All Our Money on Our Wedding and Got a Miserable Amount in Gifts, We’re Devastated and Freaking Out

It’s normal to have visions of a lavish wedding and a party that everyone will remember. However, if not properly planned, such an event can result in financial regret due to its high cost.

After spending $70,000 on their wedding, our heroes of today were disappointed to learn that the gifts they received only covered a small portion of their costs. They consequently had to postpone their honeymoon. The couple has now shared that they are “devastated” by the experience and are finding it difficult to move on, and they have turned to us and our readers for guidance on how to deal with their disappointment.

Recently, Anna, 30, and Mark, 32, wrote an extremely moving letter to our editorial. These are not the best times in the couple’s lives. The couple’s innocent desire to make their wedding day unique and unforgettable—something that is nearly impossible to top—was the beginning of it all.

In addition to writing on her own behalf, Anna was also writing on behalf of her husband, Mark. Given how emotional the woman sounded, it was obvious that they both felt strongly about their family’s circumstances.

“Hello Bright Side!” the woman said as she opened her letter. My husband, Mark, and I are now in a desperate situation. We haven’t received much support thus far, and many people judge us when we try to talk to them about our problems. We’re writing to ask for your assistance and wise counsel from anyone who might be worried about our current predicament. We anticipate harsh criticism from others, but what’s done is done, and we do require some assistance.

They spent a lot of money trying to plan a wedding that would be remembered.
“We got married last week, and this was our shared goal and dream to make our wedding so special,” Anna revealed. Our wedding, which had 300 guests, cost $70,000. We pushed a ton of bills while working nonstop. My mother even gave us a $10,000 loan, which we must repay by the end of the month.

We both had a nervous breakdown now since our guests didn’t live up to our expectations. Our wedding was extremely elegant, and we’re sure other couples would be extremely envious of the way we planned it. This was something that most likely deserved to be represented in the media, but we were in for a major letdown.

The issue is that our guests gave us a total of $4,000 in cash and checks as wedding presents. And right now, we feel completely devastated!

A newly formed family suffered as a result of the guests’ unanticipated “payback.”
“Mark and I are really devastated now,” Anna wrote. After our wedding, we can’t sleep at night because we’re constantly thinking about the enormous hole in our family’s budget. We had no idea that our new married life would begin with such a high level of stress.

After our wedding, I even witnessed my husband crying, and I started crying too because I felt like I was being cursed. After adding up the money we received from our lavish wedding, we are both in a panic.

“We anticipated receiving at least $11,000.” It’s simply intolerable that the lowest amount we received was $5! We are both being tormented by this circumstance, and I fear that this tremendous shock will cause our recently formed family to disintegrate.

The couple asked for advice because they are going through a very difficult time.
“After our wedding, we were supposed to have the most romantic honeymoon on the planet,” Anna disclosed. However, as soon as we opened all of the gifts from our guests, we called it off. We have so many bills that we are currently unable to pay for even a honeymoon trip to the local town, much less a visit to one of the world’s most famous resorts!

I simply cannot imagine how we will handle everything when my mother calls us thousands of times to ask when and how I will return the money I owe her. Nobody wants to listen to us when we talk to our friends and family; they accuse us of being extravagant.

Our current financial predicament is a good test for our relationship, according to my dad, who also told me that if we make it through this life’s journey, we will be the strongest couple ever. All of this sounds ridiculous, and I’m tired of their insults. What ought we to do?
