I Went to Pick Up My Wife and Newborn Twins from the Hospital — I Found Only the Babies and a Note

I went to pick up my wife and newborn twins from the hospital, excited to finally bring them home. The last few days had been a whirlwind of joy, anticipation, and sleepless nights, but today was the day we would be a family under one roof.

As I walked into the maternity ward, the nurse greeted me with a somber look. “Your wife left,” she said quietly. I froze, feeling a rush of confusion.

“Left?” I asked, my voice cracking.

“Yes, sir. She left with the babies’ things, but she left a note for you.”

My heart pounded as I walked over to the bassinet, where the twins slept peacefully. I carefully picked up the note, hoping it was a misunderstanding. But the words on the paper shattered me.

“I can’t do this,” it read. “I need time to think. Please take care of the babies. I’m sorry.”

The note was brief, and it made no sense. She had just given birth to our beautiful twins, and now she was gone. What could possibly have happened? I stood there, holding the note and the babies, unsure of what to do next.
