When I Saw This “Vulgar” Billboard On The Side Of The Road, I Knew It Would Make Headlines

A billboard in Maryland displays Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden in a negative light, caricaturing them lying in piles of poo with the words “DON’T BLAME TRUMP!” The sign has sparked controversy, with some finding it offensive and others supporting it as a form of free expression.

Jeanette Flaim, chair of the Calvert County Democratic Central Committee, opposes the sign and wants it taken down. She argues that it is vulgar and inappropriate for children to see.

However, the 2015 Reed v. Town of Gilbert Supreme Court Decision might protect the sign’s existence based on free speech rights.

Flaim remains determined to advocate for its removal, asserting that the imagery and message are unsuitable for public display, regardless of political views. The individual behind the billboard has not responded to comments.

As the debate continues, people in Maryland wonder whether the offensive billboard should be allowed to stay.

The billboard adds to the divisiveness of the 2020 election, with Biden fulfilling his promise to vaccinate millions against COVID-19.
