Several Subway franchisees are urging the company to remove Megan Rapinoe from their ads due to controversy stemming from her actions at the Tokyo Olympics. The soccer star secured a sponsorship with Subway this spring after kneeling during the National Anthem. In one commercial, she kicks a soccer ball and a burrito, which has sparked mixed reactions. Some franchise owners feel burdened by customer reactions, with one even posting an angry note calling for a boycott. The North American Association of Subway Franchisees (NAASF) has communicated their concerns to Subway’s leadership. Critics argue that Subway should have considered the divisive nature of Rapinoe’s actions before signing her. Despite this, Rapinoe has secured other endorsement deals, including one with Victoria’s Secret.
