A woman who miraculously survived a 15,000-foot fall after her parachute malfunctioned during a skydive has shared her memories of the life-changing incident.
Emma Carey, from Australia, was on a mission to tick off items from her dream list, one of which was skydiving in the Swiss Alps. However, what started as an exhilarating experience quickly turned into a nightmare moments after she jumped out of the plane.
Shortly after leaving the safety of the aircraft, a malfunction occurred with the parachute carrying Emma and her instructor, causing them to plummet uncontrollably towards the ground. Remarkably, despite the traumatic event, Emma remained conscious throughout the ordeal.
Emma’s story is a testament to her incredible resilience and survival. Listen to her recount the harrowing experience here:
Even though Emma Carey fell 4.5 kilometers (15,000 feet), she survived the fall but was paralyzed from the waist down and was told she would likely never walk again.
Remarkably, Emma remained conscious throughout the entire ordeal, giving her a vivid memory of the day and the horrifying incident. In an interview with *Sunrise*, she shared her experience: “I was never knocked unconscious. So I remember the fall, I remember landing, I remember the moment I realized I was paralyzed—all of it.”
She described the immediate aftermath of the fall, saying, “The first thing I felt when I hit the ground was just overwhelming pain in my whole body.”
Emma Carey shared her profound perspective on the experience: “I know how it feels to think I only have 10 seconds left to live, and now I get the rest of my life, whatever that is. So I think it’s actually really nice for me to have that memory because it helps to keep me grateful.”
Reflecting on the aftermath, she added, “Life really changed from that moment on, and I also feel like every day from that date is just extra time that I get to live, so I should celebrate that.”
Despite being told she would be paralyzed, Emma has since started to regain some feeling in her legs and has slowly learned how to walk again.
She has chronicled her journey in a book titled *The Girl Who Fell from the Sky*, sharing her incredible story of survival and resilience.
“I have heard of that! People pretend to be hurt and then steal your car,” said one commenter.
Others noted that women are also involved in these scams. “I have heard of women screaming for help only to do the same thing. Just call the cops and move on,” added a woman from the US.
