“A British man who raped a sleeping woman in her home has been sentenced to five years and four months in prison. Shockingly, it was revealed in court that he might have contracted HIV during the assault. The 27-year-old offender, Thomas, knew the victim was unwell but proceeded to rape her without protection, unaware of her HIV status. When he heard about the possibility of being HIV positive, he reportedly collapsed in court.
Thomas had tried to evade prison by claiming he was too intoxicated to remember the assault due to heavy alcohol and drug use that night. He admitted his victim’s account was truthful but contended he couldn’t recall the events.
This marked Thomas’s first conviction for a sex offense, although he had prior convictions. He has a history of substance abuse dating back to childhood.
In addition to the prison term, Thomas will be listed as a sex offender for life. He has been sent for an HIV test, a consequence he brought upon himself.”
