In 2013, YouTube prankster Tom Mabe and a group of friends decided to teach their friend Ray a lesson about the dangers of drinking and driving. Ray had received his fifth DUI, and it was time for a wake-up call. So, when Ray passed out from excessive drinking, they set up an elaborate prank to make him believe he had been in a coma for ten years.
They transported Ray to a makeshift hospital room and had actors posing as medical professionals break the news to him. They told him he had been in a coma since 2013 due to a drunk driving accident. Ray was visibly shocked and immediately asked about his daughter’s well-being.
To make the prank more convincing, they even created a fake TV news report with humorous updates, like Justin Bieber marrying his gay partner. Ray watched in disbelief as he processed the information.
However, at the end of the video, the prank was revealed, and Ray realized it had all been a joke. Laughter and play-wrestling ensued, and Ray appeared relieved.
The video went viral, with many finding it amusing and clever. Still, some viewers felt the prank should have had a more somber ending to drive home the lesson about the consequences of drunk driving.
