I’ve never been much into makeup, and my relationship with it has shifted over the years. As a kid, I reluctantly let friends experiment with glitter and braids, but makeup never captivated me. In high school, I focused on nail polish instead. I’ve never felt compelled to wear makeup regularly, and here’s why:
1. “You’d look cute with makeup.”
Why not cute without it?
2. “Your eyes would pop with makeup.”
My eyes are already pretty prominent.
3. “Did you never learn how to use makeup?”
It’s not rocket science; I just choose not to.
4. “Makeup enhances natural beauty.”
What if I already love my natural beauty?
5. “Why don’t you use makeup?”
Because I don’t want to.
6. “I couldn’t live without makeup; I don’t know how you do it.”
We all prioritize differently.
7. “It’ll make you look extra nice for [your S.O.’s name].”
My S.O. loves me as I am.
8. “I’ll do your makeup; it won’t look like you’re wearing any.”
But then what’s the point?
9. “Is it some sort of statement?”
Not necessarily; it’s about self-love.
10. “So, do you think I’m pathetic for wearing makeup?”
No, different strokes for different folks.
11. “What are you going to do when you get married?”
Stay true to myself, of course.
12. “What will you do if you have a daughter who wants to wear makeup?”
Support her choices while emphasizing her natural beauty.
Makeup or not, the most important thing is loving the face you’re born with.
