We often like to believe we’d always do the right thing, but reality often differs. However, one father’s recent action exemplified genuine kindness.
Ryan O’Donnell, shopping with his young children in Australia, witnessed an elderly woman struggling at a supermarket cash register. Her credit card repeatedly declined for her modest grocery purchase. Without hesitation, Ryan pulled out a $50 bill to cover her $44 bill.
Touched by Ryan’s generosity, the elderly woman tried to offer repayment, but Ryan declined, wishing her well. Unknown to him, someone recorded this act of kindness, and it quickly gained popularity online.
When asked why he helped, Ryan said, “I did what my parents taught me–to help others when I could!” He added, “It’s how my mum and dad brought me up—help where and when you can.”
Ryan’s actions inspire us all to consider a world where more people embody his compassion and selflessness.
