Daniel Foley, a courageous New York firefighter who received 10 citations for his bravery, has tragically passed away at the age of 46 due to pancreatic cancer linked to the 9/11 attacks. Daniel’s heroic journey began when he spent 11 days tirelessly searching for his brother, Thomas Foley, also a firefighter, who lost his life battling the flames on that fateful day in 2001.
Thomas, aged 32, was stationed at the Bronx firehouse known as Rescue 3 when he perished during the World Trade Center attacks. In honor of his brother, Daniel joined Rescue 3 and continued his unwavering commitment to saving lives.
FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro expressed his condolences, highlighting the sacrifices made by the Foley family. Daniel, a retired FDNY veteran with 21 years of service, was not only a dedicated firefighter but also a loving husband to Carrie and a father of five.
This heartbreaking loss is a stark reminder of the ongoing toll of 9/11-related illnesses, with over 2,000 deaths attributed to these health issues.
