My son taught me more than I had taught him when we went out for milkshakes.

On the way home, Nolan casually remarked, “He looked lonely, Dad.” His simple observation struck me deeply. Unlike adults who often overthink, Nolan responded with pure compassion, offering what he could in that moment.

That night, I reflected on how frequently I had been too wrapped up in my own worries to truly see others’ needs. Nolan’s kindness reminded me that compassion doesn’t demand grand gestures—just presence and willingness to share.

Since then, every Friday, Nolan and I return to the same place for milkshakes. The staff always provide two straws, a small but meaningful gesture that echoes Nolan’s simple act of empathy.

This routine has become more than just a treat—it’s a weekly reminder to look beyond ourselves and connect with others. It shows how small moments of kindness can create lasting impact.

Nolan’s innocence and gentle heart inspire me to slow down, notice those around me, and offer compassion whenever possible.
