Trans Woman Sues OB-GYN for Refusing Treatment of Male Genitalia
Jessica Yaniv, now known as Jessica Simpson, a Canadian transgender activist, previously gained attention after filing human rights complaints against beauticians who refused to wax her male genitalia. In 2019, she lost the case and was ordered to pay damages, as the estheticians were not trained to handle male anatomy and some had to shut down their businesses due to the accusations.
Simpson has continued to file complaints, including against the Langley Fire Department for not responding to non-emergency calls, and most recently against a gynecologist who allegedly refused service because she is transgender. She claimed discrimination, although she had not undergone gender-affirming surgery.
Medical professionals argue that gynecologists specialize in female reproductive anatomy, and those assigned male at birth may require different care, often from specialists trained in transgender healthcare. Experts stress that this is a matter of medical safety and scope of practice, not discrimination.
