A heartbreaking incident in Long Island has left the community mourning the loss of a 10-year-old boy who tragically passed away while playing in a Little League baseball game over the weekend. Lazar LaPenna, a fourth grader battling epilepsy, collapsed while running to first base.
In an emotional interview, Lazar’s father, Gregg LaPenna, who also coached the team, expressed gratitude for the town’s support. Lazar’s passion for the Mets and baseball was evident, and the game started like any other. However, it took a sudden and tragic turn when Lazar collapsed on first base. Despite efforts to revive him, he could not be saved.
The community has been deeply affected, with grief counselors available for those in need. The Little League will dedicate the rest of the season to the LaPenna family, and tributes like baseball caps signed with Lazar’s name have been left at Point Lookout Park.
Lazar’s memory will forever remain close to their hearts, and the community comes together in mourning his loss once again, as this story is republished from May 2022.
