A murderer, Danelo Cavalcante, who had escaped from Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania, was on the run for two weeks, causing concern as authorities struggled to make progress. He even managed to obtain a gun before disappearing again.
However, a heroic K-9 named Yoda, part of the El Paso Border Patrol Tactical Team BORTAC, played a vital role in his capture. Yoda tracked Cavalcante down after a police aircraft detected a heat signal around 1 am on September 13.
Customs and Border Protection, along with state and local partners, apprehended Cavalcante without incident. He was armed with a rifle during his capture and sustained a bite from Yoda.
Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan expressed relief, bringing closure to the family of Cavalcante’s victim. Cavalcante faces charges related to his prison escape and will appear in court on September 27.
Governor Josh Shapiro commended the dedicated law enforcement professionals for their tireless efforts in protecting the community
